Youth Council

Newcastle Youth Council provides an opportunity for young people aged between thirteen and twenty five to participate in a group.

The Youth Council aims to:

  • Reflect the interests of young people
  • Raise awareness on issues affecting young people
  • Organise activities in which young people can participate
  • Provide an advisory group for organisations wishing to develop programs and activities for young people
  • Allow for interaction between people with diverse interests and backgrounds.

The group is supported by Newcastle City Council who recognise the importance of giving young people a forum to encourage their input into community issues.

The Youth Council also provides an opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills through planning and staging events during Youth Week each year and participating on Council committees such as the Community Safety Panel, Social Strategy Advisory Committee and the Australia Day Committee.

Meetings are generally held on the fourth Wednesday of each month commencing at 6.00pm. Please contact the The Loft Youth Venue on 02 4974 2092 for venue details or email the Youth Council at: youthcouncil@ncc.nsw.gov.au

There is always an adult in attendance.

For further information on the Youth Council please contact the The Loft Youth Venue on 02 4974 2092.

The Youth Council are currently reviewing Council's Commitment to the Young People of the City and this year's Youth Week events, your student/s input would be most valuable to make sure that young people's views are heard and acted on now and in the future.

An election will be held later this year for a new Youth Mayor.

The Youth Council has a constitution (40kb pdf) to guide its operation.
